WhistlePig Rye Whiskey

Summer 2019

Marketing/ Sales Intern

WhistlePig

This summer, I will be interning at a small rye-whiskey company in New York City. This firm is a farm-to-bottle, family style company that has seen major growth in the whiskey industry. I'm doing everything from driving barrels down from the farm in Vermont, to putting together influencer packages, to writing copy for digital collateral, to updating the website, to participating in meetings where product PR brainstorming takes place. I am excited to witness this scale distribution and sales model, in terms of how stakeholders work together.

My core responsibilities included creating and surveys to orchestrate and analyze the effectiveness of UES's academic program. This entailed creating a Survey Monkey, making phone calls to 300 alumni, scribing for 3 focus groups, and quantifying substantial qualitative data. I also wrote many blog posts and helped create new landing [age designs for the Furman website.

While studying abroad with DIS in Copenhagen, I took a class called Designing Communication Campaigns in which I worked with a group of 10 students to create an end-to-end advertising campaign for a Danish Client. I served as the Account Manager and gained a strong understanding of how to communicate and execute strategy between the client and the agency. Our group produced two commercials and one print ad.

2018-2019

Student Blogger

While studying in Copenhagen, I applied for and was selected to be a student blogger. This job entailed maintaining a blog that manifested my experiences with DIS and beyond. I was tasked with sharing anecdotes regarding DIS-sponsored events and activities to provide insight for prospective students; with this, I responded to inquiries from future DIS students via email. I learned how to find a balance between professional and personal writing.

During my time working under the Development Director of this local nonprofit, I helped solicit silent auction items for the organization's 3 main fundraising events, kept track of donors in Excel spreadsheets, communicated with key stakeholders during pre and post phases of planning the events, and advertised the events by hanging up flyers around Greenville; I also wrote copy for social media posts.

Heller Service Corps

I applied for and participated in Heller's Freshmen Representative program, with which I did monthly service projects and was responsible for recruiting freshmen to get involved. My sophomore year I established a new agency under Heller by bringing a nonprofit from home to campus: KidsUganda. My junior year, I served as a campus Volunteer Coordinator on the leadership team; and, my senior year, I will be working under the Marketing Chair designing flyers for events.

After bringing KidsUganda to Furman my year, I initiated a plan to orchestrate a fundraiser in the form of a kickball tournament on campus. I constructed a board of 15 members and delegated team-making tasks. My networking and advertising skills were put to the test. I advertised the event around campus, worked with local business to get sponsorships to incentivize people to come, and orchestrated day- tasks.

Packer Soccer Camp

During the summer after my senior year of high school, as well as two summers after that, I worked at a local soccer camp that I attended as a young kid. I coached the 3-5 year old group, which had about 25 kids each session. I was responsible for organizing fun practice sessions and keeping the kids engaged. This required me to use my imagination 100% of the time & taught me how to make the most random things relevant.
